In Kyiv region, five civil servants have been notified of suspicion of misappropriation of funds allocated for the repair of housing damaged by Russian aggression. This was reported by the National Police of Ukraine. The suspects include the former deputy head of the civil-military administration of Gostomel, the former head of the department, and three of his subordinates.
According to investigators, the officials signed contracts with contractors for the restoration of residential facilities, but homeowners often completed repairs at their own expense. As a result of their actions, the state budget suffered losses of more than UAH 650 thousand under several contracts alone.
During the searches, police seized documents, cash, seals, equipment, cars and other material evidence. The officials are charged with embezzlement of property by abuse of office, repeatedly, on a large scale under martial law, and making false documents. According to the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Part 5 of Article 191, Part 3 of Article 28, Part 1 of Article 366), they may face up to 12 years in prison.
Law enforcement officers are also checking the suspects’ involvement in other similar cases, and the total amount of damage may reach several tens of millions of hryvnias.
