Kyiv police prevented the illegal sale of unique ancient artifacts. These are silver jewelry dating back to the IV-V centuries.
The Main Directorate of the National Police in Kyiv reported on the successful operation of the investigators.
They wanted to sell unique artifacts for nothing
An attempt was made to sell unique finds from the time of the “resettlement of peoples” at an illegal auction on the Internet. Experts from one of the leading historical museums in Ukraine found out about this and reported it to the police, who tracked down the seller.
It turned out to be a resident of Kirovohrad district who wanted to get rid of priceless items for a penny – a fragment of a bracelet and a gilded belt end in the form of a bird of prey’s head with a garnet insert.
In addition, it was established that another seller had sold a silver fibula, a clothing fastener that also served as a piece of jewelry.
Experts who have preliminarily examined the confiscated artifacts claim that they all belonged to the nobility of the so-called barbarian kingdoms of the time of the migration of peoples.
The website of the National Police of Kyiv reports that an art historical examination is currently underway to confirm the value of the items. Upon its completion, the jewelry will be transferred to the National Museum of History of Ukraine.
