There are more than 42,000 Starlink terminals in Ukraine, most of which are financed by Poland. In response to the need for a stable and reliable communication channel, the European Union is considering alternative solutions.

The EU is exploring options for independent satellite communications for Ukraine.
According to the newspaper, European Commission representative Thomas Rainier said that Kyiv has expressed interest in connecting to Govsatcom, a satellite network that provides strategic communication for EU countries. Ukraine can also get access to IRIS², a European satellite communications system scheduled to be launched in 2030.
The European Parliament has already demanded that all possible alternatives to Starlink that the EU can offer be evaluated. MEP Christoph Grüdler called on the EU executive to speed up the deployment of Govsatcom by simplifying the certification process to provide Ukraine with stable communications during the transition period.
In addition, Brussels is considering the possibility of using the satellite capacities of commercial operators, including Eutelsat, Hispasat, SES and OneWeb, which operate in geostationary orbit. However, the format of cooperation with these companies has not yet been determined.
Earlier, it was reported that the UK was investing heavily in strengthening Ukraine’s air defense.
